There are three primary types of window films: dyed, carbon, and ceramic. There are other types but due to lack of popularity, they will not be mentioned.
Dyed Films - Dyed window films are the most cost effective option. They give UV protection and privacy without breaking the bank. However, majority of dyed films tend to go purple, bubble up, peel, and more. This is because the sun's UV rays eat away at the black dye material and, in turn, the film looses its structural integrity. Ace Auto Tint does not carry any traditional dyed films.
Carbon Films - Carbon films get their color from carbon particles, not dye. Due to this, carbon films do not ever turn purple or bubble. Thanks to huge advancements in the tinting industry, carbon films cost almost the same as dyed films yet last many years longer. However, carbon films do not block much heat from the sun. Usually maxing out in the 40s to 50s in heat rejection. Carbon films are oriented for those who want inexpensive and reliable privacy.
Ceramic Films - Ceramic films block heat and remain on top of the tint food chain. They are superior in almost every way compared to dyed and carbon films. Ceramic films have heat rejection ratings up to the high 90s. The only downside to ceramic films are the price point. There are hybrid options that combine both ceramic and carbon films to lower the price point.

In the state of California, you are allowed to tint the top 4 inches of your windshield with non reflective film. This is commonly known as a sun visor or eyebrow. The front driver and passenger doors must have a VLT of 70% or above. The rear doors, rear quarters, and rear windshield can be of any darkness. Ace Auto Tint encourages everyone to follow the local tint laws and be safe on the road.
